For a savvy Internet marketer, the Internet holds an amazing potential to make money. On late-night infomercials you hear about people making money while they sleep, without having to lift a finger. In fact, this isn’t such a far-off claim when you know how to use the Internet to your advantage. Establishing an online empire takes time, patience and know-how. Here are a few tips for how to start off making money advertising on websites online.

Instructions

  1. Sign up for affiliate programs with companies that have products you have tried, or that you believe will sell well and be of value to the general community. You can also set up your own website advertising your own products and services to make money.
  2. Sign up for a Google AdWords account; it only takes a few moments. Once you are signed into your new Google AdWords account, start reading the tutorials regarding keyword choices and how to optimize your AdWords advertising dollars. With AdWords you will be advertising on other websites for a fee.
  3. Load money onto your Google AdWords account and set your daily spending limit. For example, if you only want to spend $150 a month on your AdWords advertisements, you would set your daily limit to $5. Everytime someone clicks on your AdWords ad, you will be charged a per-click rate. The amount of money that you spend on each ad click depends on the demand for the keyword. A highly competitive keyword will cost much more. Be sure to pick keywords that 1) are highly targeted for your product, 2) are not as competitive as the obvious general keywords for your type of product, and 3) get decent traffic. This will help you get more value for your money. You want quality hits, not just a high quantity of hits.
  4. Choose keywords that would go best with the product or service you will be advertising on your website (or affiliate link). For example, if you are selling a book about classic cars, your keywords should be search terms that auto aficionados and classic car buyers will likely use when going to a search engine (i.e. classic 1960s cars).
  5. Create an ad (it can be a text or image ad) with your affiliate link or the link to your website built in. When people click your Google Adwords link they will be sent to your website. If they purchase something, you will make money off of the sale and be paid either through the parent company for your affiliate program, through your credit card merchant account, or through Paypal (usually a preferred payment center for online sales–see below to learn more about Paypal).
